[UPDATED] Confusion as Saraki emerges Senate President


Senator Bukola Saraki (APC-Kwara Central) has been elected unopposed as President of 8th Senate by 57 of 108 senators, with 51 senators, including Senator Ahmed Lawan, absent.
The other senators were at the International Conference Centre, meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the time Saraki was declared President.

Senator Bukola Saraki has been elected the President of Nigeria’s 8th Assembly.


He was elected unopposed.
The inauguration of the 8th National Assembly is ongoing in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
